At the beginning of this year Jesse & I travelled to Mwanza, Tanzania. Not one of the well known cities in Tanzania, most people have heard of the city Dar Es Salaam and/or the beautiful island Zanzibar. So why go to Mwanza? Well, actually because I was born there and we have family there. During our holiday we got to visit my mother, sister and her boyfriend which was great! I love spending time with family.
Mwanza
The second largest city in Tanzania is Mwanza, on the southern edge of Lake Victoria. Also called Rock city because of the very large rocks in the city. The Bismarck rock is well known because of the way the boulder is balanced on a group of other rocks in Lake Victoria. The locals are so friendly and happy, it is just a joy to be around them.
Serengeti, Tanzania
When you’re in Mwanza you definitely have to arrange a trip to the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is one of the 7 natural wonders of Africa. We went on a day trip as we had already visited the Serengeti a few years ago. This year we went with DTS Safaris, a project my sister and her boyfriend set up arranging Safari tours in Tanzania. The second time was just as amazing as the first, wauw, wauw, wauw!! The landscapes are breathtaking and it’s truly so special to see all the different animals that live here.
Foundation DART
My mother started a foundation a couple of years ago. She’s making a huge difference in the lives of young girls in Mwanza. Offering them a chance to get educated and learn a skill set to help them in life. These girls are so wonderful, so eager to learn and thankful for everything. It was a joy to see them again and see the progress they are making. If you’re interested in helping a good, small organisation I would definitely recommend Foundation DART!
Amazing nature
There are so many beautiful places to explore in Mwanza and the nature is simply breathtaking!
Family
Family is very important to me and I love spending time with family. Unfortunately I don’t get to spend so much time with mine because they live all over the world. So when visiting Mwanza I was very happy that my mum, sister and her boyfriend were there. We had so much fun together! Also we got to see aunts, uncles and cousins that we only see every few years. Our trip was amazing!
